Design Prototyping Services
With our design and engineering professionals, rapid prototyping shops, and installation specialists, we free up your company's internal resources so you can focus on your business.
At this stage any hidden problems come to the forefront and can be modified in a timely and cost effective manner. We also maintain some on-site prototyping facilities for projects that require a quick turn around time and part modifications.
By using rapid prototyping techniques we provide the right prototyping model, from 3D computer modeling, 3D physical models and right up to scaled mockups to better visualize the manufacturing details and a view of the final design without all the expense and overhead of building the actual product.
3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD)
From the initial sketch, 3D computer modeling brings ideas to life the design concepts making easier for you and your clients to visualize the product. Our designers can transform your hand sketches into static models for presentation. We can also create animations and exploded views that reveal intricate detail and the interrelationships between components that may lead to conflicts among moving parts.

Detailed Engineering Drawings
Transforming 3D models and mockups into working products calls for detailed drawings that show component dimensions from all angles. Our engineers and technicians assure the highest accuracy possible when preparing drawings to ensure a high degree of repetition during the manufacture of parts. We also prepare assembly drawings and layouts to make assembling components quick and trouble free.
Scale Mockups
When a full-size real model is needed to test operational theories and assess component configurations, we can build inexpensive models to quickly uncover any potential manufacturing issues. This is a cost effective way of integrating any essential design changes. This is especially useful when developing moving parts and automation products where component interactions and part trajectories must be evaluated manually before adding fast-moving drive mechanisms and automated controls. Where high accuracy is needed for precision components, parts may be built directly from 3D virtual models using stereolithography techniques and other rapid prototyping methods.
Static Prototypes
These are simple prototypes used to demonstrate concepts, establish component envelopes and to assess other basic design features. They may be made from inexpensive materials like foam board, cardboard, or wood which makes design changes cost effective and fast.

Functional Prototypes
Components used at this level of a working prototyping are durable enough to withstand testing of the finished parts, and accurate enough that they may be replaced by real components to ensure the function the same way as the real parts. We design and develop fully automated turnkey systems that include all the hardware (electronics, etc. ), software (control systems) and human interfaces needed to deliver fully functioning prototypes that are virtually plug-and-play.
Pre-production Prototypes
At Selwyn Adams Technologies we can manufacture limited quantities of your product for you, thus eliminating the need to make large capital investments in tooling and production, allowing a faster time to market for your ideas and creations. This makes it possible to evaluate form, fit, and function for all components prior to committing the design to large scale manufacturing. Performance of the finished product may also be thoroughly evaluated by potential customers either as beta trial (under real conditions) or in a laboratory environment. Final
adjustments and changes may then be made from real performance data to
prepare the design for mass production.
